Neighborhood Association Update

We have several neighborhood improvements underway! Here’s the latest on traffic safety, the Cherokee Street widening project, and plans to beautify one of our common areas.

Speed Hump Installation

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (DOT) is moving forward with plans to install 11 speed humps on neighborhood streets. The speed humps will be located on the east side of McCollum Parkway, where speeding has been a particular concern due to our proximity to Kennesaw State University.

The affected streets are:

  • Bozeman Lake Road

  • Club Drive

  • Frey Lake Road

  • Overlook Trail

Signs have been erected near the planned installation locations and are currently covered with black plastic. Installation is tentatively scheduled for the last week of October, although weather conditions may affect the construction schedule.

We appreciate the county’s efforts to address speeding and improve safety on our neighborhood streets.

Cherokee Street Widening Project Update

As noted in our August update, the City of Kennesaw is moving forward with the long-awaited Cherokee Street widening project. The finalized plan calls for a three-lane roadway extending from McCollum Parkway to Ben King Road.

Key features of the project include:

  • A Continuous Center Turn Lane: The roadway will retain one travel lane in each direction, with a dedicated center lane for left turns. This design is intended to reduce traffic backups caused by vehicles waiting to turn into neighborhoods and businesses, without the additional footprint required for a four-lane road.

  • New Curbs, Gutters, and Sidewalks: The existing open-ditch drainage system will be replaced with concrete curbs and storm gutters. The project also includes a continuous six-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the east side of Cherokee Street, providing a safer connection between our neighborhoods and local pathways.

Before major road construction and paving can begin, underground and overhead utilities—including water, power, gas, and fiber-optic lines—must be relocated to accommodate the new roadway.

Utility relocation work is currently underway on Cherokee Street. Major road construction is expected to follow as these relocations are completed. We will continue to share updates as the project progresses.

Common Area Beautification Project

We are in the planning stages of our first common area beautification project! The project will focus on the island at the intersection of Bozeman Lake Road and Club Drive.

The proposed improvements include concrete paver edging, gravel, pine straw or mulch, decorative boulders, and a few ornamental fountain grass plants. The goal is to create a neat, attractive entrance feature that enhances the appearance of our neighborhood.

We are finalizing the materials list and project budget. This will be a neighborhood volunteer project, and we plan to ask for volunteers to help with installation in the coming weeks.

More details, including the volunteer opportunity, will be shared soon. We hope you’ll consider lending a hand as we work together to make our neighborhood an even better place to live!

Thank you for your continued interest and involvement in our community.   Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
